Ragging- a serious social problem

What is Ragging?

Ragging has become a serious problem in our society these days. Everybody knows the meaning and of ‘Ragging’. This is a typical gladness for the senior boys and girls on the juniors. It makes a critical atmosphere of the Medical and Engineering colleges and also many educational institutions. Literally ragging means “teasing” or “tormenting”. Nobody knows where the practice originated. But the senior boys and girls find a common pleasure by teasing the new fresh students in their institutions. Senior students through the process help young boys and girls smart and up to date. It is so painful that the process sometimes crosses all limits and become inhuman. Thus it has become a serious social problem.

Countrywide Problem:

In the underdeveloped third world countries like India, this social ulcer becomes an increase rapidly. In India, only a little number of lucky students get the opportunity to read in Engineering and Medical College hostels. They also need huge money which ordinary families cannot think to afford. As such, these boys and girls of well-established families learned from their childhood only to step upward. Naturally, they feel pleasure in pain others as they do not feel it yourself. They suffer from a kind of garble- where sympathy, softness, fellow feeling, cooperation are the hidden word. The result is that they ragging to their juniors students in many ways. Sometimes it goes to the border of inhuman activities, like

• Compel him or her to take alcohol

• Give him or her cigarette burns

• To pour chilled freezes water in his or her body in the winter night.

• Making the fresher naked.

• And like other crude physical and mental tortures.

On the other hand, there are hostels for the students of general science, arts, and commerce stream where the problem of ragging is almost nil. Most of the nasty type of ragging turns up in the youth hostels and several other Medical and Engineering colleges hostels.

Many senior students feel the pleasure of making ‘April fool’ the young junior boys and girls. Most of the senior students are meritorious. In this situation, they habituated this type of social crime. They think ragging never hostility among the junior and the senior students. Ultimately juniors get wanted with the new environment and get smart.

Social Damage:

Ragging has affected students and created strong reactions among the guardians of newcomer students and also in the community on a large scale. Such as –

• Many students have left their study for fear of Physical torture in the institutions.

• A few students have also died.

• Several numbers of students injured seriously.

In reality, ragging is a serious problem that damaging our society. It is a kind of sadism.

Anti-ragging Steps:

The central government has implemented the anti-ragging act. But these steps are not enough for this serious reality. The ordinary boys and girls from a simple family remain the victim. This is the hard-core tooth behind the curtain. Slowly ragging becomes a social problem.

How to Solve Ragging:

Although, we can solve the problem. The problem of ragging is not very difficult to remove or reduce.

STEP 1: Take an undertaking from senior students that they will not involved in any type of ragging.

STEP 2: Before admission, a circular may be issued that ragging is prohibited in this institution.

STEP 3: The teachers, hostel supers should create a monitoring cell with the help of conscious students to prevent varies ragging incidents.

STEP 4: The doctors and psychologists of every institute give declarations against these ragging.

STEP 5: The police should also be vigilant about the crime and such type of phenomenon should be treated with priority.

STEP 6: Grow awareness in society to reduce the problem. It is very important to build a total awareness is achieved from all corner against this social crime, we can not accept its solutions.
